La Romana
Southwest of Punta Cana lies La Romana, one of the most important cities of the east coast and preferred destination amongst discriminating travelers. With clear azure waters and endless white sandy beaches it is no surprise that La Romana was the chosen home for world-renowned hotel chains like Viva Wyndham, Iberostar, Oasis and AMResorts.
Established initially as a commercial port, La Romana now boasts one of the country’s largest sugarcane refineries “The Central Romana”. This exponential growth can be accredited to the American Gulf & Western Company, who has influenced the financial and commercial activities of the region. This same company built Casa de Campo, one of the most complete and luxurious hotel complexes of the time. Most of La Romana’s attractions can all be found inside Casa de Campo and it’s Marina. Casa de Campo is known to be a mayor hot spot in the Caribbean. Personalities such as Shakira, Oscar de la Renta and Julio Iglesias have made it their preferred vacationing spot.
The Casa de Campo Marina provides its visitors with all the facilities of a yacht club, plus all the exclusivity that Casa de Campo has to offer. Whether you are looking for a leisurely stroll window-shopping or an unforgettable dining experience, the Casa de Campo Marina is truly the best choice. An endless array of stores and restaurants are at your disposal waiting to satisfy your every whim.
Overlooking the Chavon River, you can find Altos de Chavon, a beautifully designed artists colony resembling a 16th century village complete with cobblestones streets, coral stone fountains and terra cotta buildings. Home to The School of Design of Altos de Chavon, a branch of the Parsons School of Design, this little village also boasts a 5000 seat roman style amphitheater that was inaugurated by Frank Sinatra and Carlos Santana. Names such as Brian Adams, Juan Luis Guerra and Shakira have also performed here.
For those looking for beautiful beaches and great snorkeling, Bayahibe is the place! Just 20 minutes away from the city of La Romana, in this quaint fisherman’s village is Bayahibe Beach, one of the most popular in the area. From here small boats, speedboats and catamarans all head out to one of our two islands, Saona & Catalina.
These two small islands are pieces of paradise surrounded by the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean Sea. Encompassed by white sandy beaches and some of the best coral formations in the area, these two are a “must see” by snorkeling and diving enthusiasts. With tours going almost daily, these islands are the perfect option for a day filled with sun and relaxation... |
